The Pantry of Broward Turns One Year Old

The Pantry of Broward is now one year old.  In July of 2008 The Pantry of Broward opened its doors to serve and support its clients by providing food and support services to seniors in need on low fixed incomes and grandparents raising grandchildren in Broward County.   Founded by BJ Buntrock and CEO Penny Loughan, The Pantry of Broward was created to help these two underserved populations of our community.  Now after one year The Pantry of Broward is serving over 300 clients every month.

One of our clients is Adeline, a mother and grandmother, who will be 80 years old in September. Adeline lived in New York for over 30 years; she raised two sons and worked as a nurse’s technician and aid in a local hospital.  After retiring she relocated to Florida, initially living with one of her sons in Orlando.  After a period of time, she realized that she wanted to be independent and have some privacy.
Adeline knew it would be financially difficult to make it completely on her own on the small social security check she was receiving.  She applied for Section 8 housing assistance and after waiting for three years for an apartment to open up, her prayers were answered.

She is so grateful for the added help from The Pantry of Broward.  If not for the additional food and support assistance, Adeline would not be able to make ends meet.  “I don’t really like to cook, so I open the food box and I can warm up items and make simple meals for myself.”
Adeline, like so many other seniors in our community, worked hard all her life, paid taxes, raised a family and simply wants to live her golden years as an independent and proud woman.  These are our clients.

Marty Elberg, Circle of Life Legal Services

Circle of Life Legal Services is an estate planning practice that focuses on helping families enhance their lives today and secure their futures for tomorrow.  Attorney Marty Elberg helps guide clients through the often confusing maze of financial and legal decisions to create plans that ensure the well-being of families and the accomplishments of cherished family goals.

Marty Elberg graduated from California Western School of Law in 2006. After graduation, Marty moved back to his hometown of Eagle Grove, Iowa to be closer to his and his wife’s family where they could raise their boys with the same Midwestern values they learned.  Soon after he was admitted to the Iowa bar in 2007, he opened his own practice to serve the small town.  After several years of growing his business and transitioning their boys into responsible young men, Marty and his wife moved to Florida. He now resides in Fort Lauderdale with his wife, Susie. Their children live in Iowa and Virginia. One is in the Army National Guard and the other is in the US Navy.

Community involvement has always been a top priority for Marty. In April of 2015 he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Voices for Children of Broward County. This organization helps bring normalcy to neglected and abused children under the care of the state in Broward County.  He was also selected as one of three finalists for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award.
