Greater Fort Lauderdale Region Sees Continued Job Growth

The Fort Lauderdale region continues to be among the top five Florida metro areas for private sector growth, adding 12,400 new jobs in April 2018. The unemployment rate dipped to 3.2 percent, down half a percentage point from the same time a year ago. Governor Rick Scott announced positive reports across the state, with Florida’s 2.3 percent job growth rate continuing to outpace the nation’s 1.8 percent rate.

“These are the numbers we like to see,” said Greater Fort Lauderdale President & CEO Dan Lindblade, CAE. “The Greater Fort Lauderdale area continues to be a bright spot in the state, and we anticipate even more positive growth in the months to come.”

The construction industry topped the charts in growth, with 3,400 new jobs, followed by professional and business services, which added 3,100 new jobs. High-paying STEM occupations are also in demand; The Greater Fort Lauderdale area boasted the fourth-highest number of new jobs, adding 5,684.

The state unemployment rate remains at 3.9 percent, down nearly 7 percentage points since 2010.
