Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony Talks Improvements & Accreditation Process
Our Chamber had the pleasure of hosting Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony at this month's Chairman's Circle & Trustee Reception hosted by Ocean Land Investments. The Sheriff was invited to give an update on the changes his department has implemented, since losing its accreditation in the wake of the mass shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
It was a timely opportunity to hear the Sheriff speak, just over an hour after our Board of Directors listened to a presentation from Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie which focused heavily on school safety and security. To read more about Superintendent Runcie's presentation and how the Broward Sheriff's Office can now monitor surveillance systems in real time, click here.
Sheriff Tony gave a breakdown of steps being taken to improve school security and his department as a whole.
When it came time for questions, Sheriff Tony revealed that BSO has been invited for a major meeting in November in hopes of restoring its accreditation.
