The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced Broward County's jobless rate was 2.8% last month (September 2019). This rate is 0.3% lower than our region's year ago rate.
Non-agricultural employment in the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was 865,600 last month, an increase of 12,600 jobs (+1.5%) over the year. The unemployment rate within the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division was also 2.8% for September 2019.
While the unemployment rate has again slipped below 3%, wages continue to come under the microscope. Similar to the national average in wage increases, the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division has seen an average wage increase of 3.3% between September 2018-September 2019.

- Other services (+8.9 percent); education and health services (+4.7 percent); and financial activities (+3.4 percent) industries grew faster in the metro area than statewide over the year.
- The Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Bch-Deerfield Bch Metro Division had the highest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in other services (+3,400 jobs) in September 2019.
- Tied for the highest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in information (+100 jobs) in September 2019.
- Tied for the second highest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in financial activities (+2,100 jobs) in September 2019.
- The industries gaining in jobs over the year were: education and health services (+5,200 jobs); professional and business services (+4,300 jobs); other services (+3,400 jobs); financial activities (+2,100 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+1,100 jobs) and information (+100 jobs).
- The trade, transportation, and utilities (-2,800 jobs); government (-600 jobs); and construction (-200 jobs) industries lost jobs over the year.
- The manufacturing industry was unchanged over the year.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.2 percent in September 2019, down 0.1% from the August 2019 rate, and down 0.1 percentage point from a year ago. There were 336,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,421,000. |
