Annual meeting, Experience Better Business in 2014
Welcome to February and the month of our 104 Annual Meeting presented by BB&T on February 27, 11:30 am, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center.
When it comes to must attend Chamber events, this is one to put on your calendar and for which you should register early at www.ftlchamber.com/register.
Many thanks to our current sponsors which include: BB&T, Fisher & Phillips, BusinessF1rst, Broward Health Medical Center, FP&L, The Wasie Foundation, PSAV, and Jet Blue. Please consider joining as a sponsor by contacting the Chamber at 954/462-4911 or 954/462-8792.
This year we are pleased to have Steven Van Andel, chairman of the board of the US Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Amway Corporation. We will also celebrate our successes in 2013 under the capable leadership of Chairman Chuck Mohr, BB&T, give out a few awards like the Carolyn M. Michaels, IOM, Leadership Award, and look forward to the outstanding work to be accomplished this year with Chairwoman Courtney Crush, Crush Law, at the helm.
Already we have results from the first quarterly meeting of the Council of Economic Advisors who are bullish on continued expansion in 2014. With Broward County unemployment ending the year at 5.0%, businesses expanding and new corporations/site selectors making more formal requests for information, there is good reason for optimism.
Our Senior Executive Orientation Class 2014 has begun this month with significant content for its 18 C-level attendees. The goal of SEO is to bring together top level executives who had an interest in gaining an in-depth knowledge of Broward County in a relatively short timeframe. High profile speakers bring information directly to the class in an immersion format to get our new leaders up and running quickly.
This month we will also be debating a proposal for debt restructuring from Sunrise Sports and Entertainment (Florida Panthers), continue our push for Congress to reach agreement on the Water Resource Recovery Act permission for expansion of our seaport, and review a variety of other public policy issues on the local and state levels.
Lastly, you will begin to see our new branding campaign, "Experience. Better. Business.", launched in a variety of different channels as we continue to secure South Florida's future as the critical economic engine for the state. Our campaign is a multi-dimensional that includes business tips, enhanced media coverage of our programs and deeper content with value-added educational offerings.
See you at the Chamber.
