Next community leader
This week Fort Lauderdale commissioners should hire a new
city manager. They have three finalists
from which to choose. After serving on
the Search Committee, I can say all three are capable.
With Acting City Manager Allyson Love resigning a week ago,
and several assistant city managers hitting the road before her, it is time to
move on to a new era of leadership. Either
Pat DiGiovanni, San Antonio, Mike Levinson, Coral Springs, or Lee Feldman, Palm
Bay, will be offered the position. Once
selected, the new city manager will have a lot on his plate.
It will be a short honeymoon what with significant issues
facing whoever is hired Tuesday evening.
By the time he starts it will be about one year since former manager
George Gretsas left his after his contract was not renewed. While Love has been doing a commendable job,
it became clear she was not interested in the top position.
The Chamber will support the new administration
in a variety of areas especially those that retain or increase jobs or impact
economic development throughout the region.
All three candidates have varying levels of success with Levinson, by
virtue of his tenure, significantly more accomplished.
New beginnings are exciting and this should not be an
exception. Collectively we are on the
verge of many opportunities and challenges.
Please join me in ushering in our next community leader.
