Heads in beds...July had the highest hotel occupancy since 2006, up 8% from 2010. Overall, year-to-date hotel occupancy is 74%, up 6% year-over-year. July 2011 saw the highest Average Daily Rate since 2008 and has been "in the black" for the past five months. Tourist tax collections show double-digit growth over the last four months with an increase of 12% in June 2011 and 11.6% in May 2011. March and April also had dramatic increases with 15% and 25%. Bed Tax Collections through June 2011 are up 9%.
FLL Air passenger traffic continues growth...July 2011 marked the 23rd month of consecutive growth passenger traffic. It was also the busiest July on record. Total traffic for the month was 2,037,607, up 4% over July last year. International traffic was 339,332, up 1% over last year. July commercial operations totaled 19,305, up .5% over last July. General Aviation totaled 3,047, down 6% over July of last year. Total aircraft movements for the period were 22,352, down .5% over last year.
Cruise passenger traffic up...increased 2% during the third quarter of the fiscal year, April through June 2011, compared to the same period last year, and by 13% for the first nine months of its fiscal year ending June 30, 2011, with 3,461,886 cruise passengers embarking and debarking through the Port compared to 3,069,523 passengers last year.
Home sales show positive gains...sales of existing single-family units were up 8% in July with 1,087 sold. Condos were up 12% for the same period with 1,293 units sold. The median resale price for single-family homes was up 5% to $193,000, while for condos it was flat at $81,200
