Opportunity and humility
I thought it would be a good idea to update you on several areas in and around the Chamber. It's difficult for me to keep my calendar straight and I forget to recognize the army of business professionals without whom we could not accomplish nearly as much. This week debuts the Chamber’s iConnect international program initiative thanks to the great work by International Vice Chair Michelle Tanzer, Holland + Knight.
Tanzer has assembled a star-studded cast including: Alex Sink, Evelyn D’An, Frances Faigenblat and Manny Mencia. SunSentinel business reporter Doreen Hemlock moderates this complimentary game changer program that includes breakfast—registration is limited and is near capacity: www.ftlchamber.com/iconnectevent.
Chamber Directors, Chairman’s Circle members and Trustees will hear from Nova Southeastern University president George Hanbury this week as he updates our leadership on the future plans of the nation’s eighth largest independent, not-for-profit university with 28,000 students and 148,000 alumni.
One of our other advanced education partners, Broward College, was recently recognized by the Aspen Institute as one of the top 10 community colleges in the US. This qualifies BC for a piece of the $1 million prize to be awarded in March. Congrats to our Director Nancy Botero, President David Armstrong, and all the faculty, staff, students and alumni.
Our members continue to be recognized for excellence and their professional contribution to our region. 2012 Influential Business Women are: Paula J. Alderson, Hospice by the Sea, Julie Fisher Berry, Stiles Realty, Gale M. Butler, AutoNation, Luisa Gutman, Holy Cross Hospital, Tammy Knight, Holland + Knight, Pamela Rauch, Florida Power & Light, Gladys Reed, BankUnited, and Mary Jane Saunders, Florida Atlantic University.
Lastly, we need to recognize Bill Holland, Edward Jones/William Holland, the Small Business Committee and Chamber staff, especially Doug Frens, for the outstanding job they did on producing Jazz in the Hall last week. Nearly 200 members and guests were at the Chamber making new connections and having a great time.
It’s no wonder why our Chamber maintains its relevancy and value with these superstars in our ranks. As our Leadership Fort Lauderdale Class 19 grooms our next generation icons, we set our sights on Salute to Business Awardees (click here to learn more), and we select the 2013 Board of Directors, I am humbled by the honor to be part of such an impactful organization.
See you at the Chamber.
