Traffic Update June 2017

June Traffic Climbed

Total traffic for June 2,676,537, up 13.8%. Domestic traffic increased 9.3%. International traffic was up 33.7%.  

June was the 39th consecutive month of growth in total traffic. It was also the 11th consecutive month of double digit growth in international passenger traffic.

June 2017 had an average of 354 scheduled daily departures compared to 311 for June of last year. This is an increase of 14% or 43 flights. Service grew to 125 destinations vs. 116 last year.

International Traffic is Now 21% of Total Passenger Traffic

International traffic has grown significantly over the past five years and continues to be a larger percentage of total passenger traffic. International traffic is now 21% (year to date Jan-Jun) of FLL’s total passenger traffic. The chart below illustrates the growth.

Airports Council International Data Showed FLL #1

The most recent data from Airports Council International for  May shows FLL:

  • Fastest growing large hub airport for the 12 months ending May.
  • Fastest growing large hub airport for the YTD Jan-May.
  • Fastest growing large hub airport for May.
  • Ranked 10th in international traffic for YTD Jan-May

New Service

  • British Airways to London/Gatwick in July.
  • Norwegian to Barcelona in August, Martinique in October.
  • JetBlue to Salt Lake City in November.
  • Delta to Salt Lake City in November.
  • Allegiant to Milwaukee and Norfolk in November.
  • Southwest to Punta Cana, San Jose, and Provinciales in November, Aruba in March 2017.

Discontinued Service 

Frontier advised that they will be leaving FLL in October. Frontier presently operates 3 flights a week to Cincinnati and 3 flights a week to Trenton. It was FLL’s only service to Trenton. Delta and Allegiant presently serve Cincinnati.   

International Traffic Expected to Exceed 7 Million Passengers in 2017

Based on scheduled available seats and historical data, FLL should exceed 7 million international passengers and 32 million total passengers for calendar year 2017.
