The Florida Association of Nonprofits will host its 25thAnniversary Gala on Saturday, November 7th, 2015 at the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce ballroom located at 512 NE 3rd Avenue. Legendary recipients of the Lawton’s Heart Humanitarian Awards will be honored during this black tie event.
The Florida Association of Nonprofits (Florida Nonprofits) presents the Lawton’s Heart Humanitarian Award to outstanding community members whose lifetime of work and service contributed significantly to making Florida a better place to live. They began making awards in 1993 to acknowledge the help given by the nonprofit sector in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. In 1999, the award was changed and renamed the Lawton’s Heart Humanitarian Award. Recipients include Governor Lawton Chiles; Tuskegee Airman Dr. Charles J. Flowers; Latin Grammy Award winning flautist Nestor Torres; and global health humanitarian Dr. Barth Green of the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine.
The evening will begin with red carpet photographs and an open bar cocktail reception where guests will have a chance to mingle and bid on silent auction items before being seated for a 9 course meal prepared by multiple local restaurants, sushi boats, crepes made table side and a Viennese desert table. The gala will conclude with a Champagne toast and the recognition of the Legendary Lawton’s Heart Humanitarian Award recipients followed by dancing.
Proceeds raised at the 25th Anniversary Gala will fund scholarships for Florida Nonprofit’s Certificate in Nonprofit Management Program. It will also support the organization’s mission to build the capacity of Florida’s nonprofit sector by providing Help, Education, Advocacy, Research, Training (HEART) and over $2 million in savings to the state’s nonprofits.
“Supporting Florida Nonprofits is supporting Florida’s nonprofit sector,” said Maria Hidalgo-Diaz, Florida Organization of Nonprofits’ Board of Directors Chair. “Together, we can help nonprofits enhance their organizational capacity and continue their vital work of serving those in need and making Florida a better place to live,” she continued.
