Cleveland Clinic Florida Honors DAISY Award Winners for Exceptional Nursing

WESTON, Fla. – Nov. 9, 2017 – Four Cleveland Clinic Florida nurses were recognized this year with the DAISY Award for their exceptional, compassionate and skillful care. DAISY honorees include Abbee Taddesse, RN; Andrea Buchman Kissane, LPN; Lourdes Wilson, RN; and Nicole Thebeau, RN.

“These nurses consistently deliver excellence through their clinical expertise and compassionate care, and provide a great patient experience,” said Kerry Major, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at Cleveland Clinic Florida. “They are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community and we are proud to have them on the Cleveland Clinic Florida team.”

Abbee Taddesse, RN, a telemetry and medical-surgical nurse, was a DAISY Award Winner in March 2017. She was nominated by the daughter of a patient and was commended for providing the patient with a great experience when he was recovering from a prostatectomy. “She ensured my dad was comfortable and used assessment and critical thinking skills to wean him from the BiPAP. As a fellow nurse, it was comforting to know that my dad was in the hands of a knowledgeable and compassionate nurse.”

Andrea Buchman Kissane, LPN, in the Department of Endocrinology, received a DAISY Award in May 2017 for her care of a unique and complex group of patients. Nominated by a physician, Kissane is described as a hard worker who has made countless contributions to the success of the Diabetes Clinic at Cleveland Clinic Florida. “Andrea continuously shows the physicians what it means to feel supported. She is a great team member, whether it be staying late to help other staff, talking patients through their first time on insulin, or managing high patient volumes at the clinic and on the phones.”

Surgical ICU Nurse Lourdes Wilson, RN, won the DAISY Award in July 2017 for being the go-to nurse on the night shift for training new open heart and transplant nurses, as well as providing compassionate care. “Lourdes puts the care in caring. She starts with heart and follows through with it.” Because of her training, Cleveland Clinic’s Florida’s compassionate nurses are prepared for the challenge of providing the most demanding care, asserts her nominator.

Nicole Thebeau, RN, another surgical ICU nurse, received the DAISY Award in October 2017. Nominated by the family of a patient, Thebeau is described as kind and professional. “Nicole has been my mother’s nurse for seven years, and she is the best one in the world! I breathe easy when we are here and Nicole is in charge. She is an angel and we love her!”

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates nurses. Cleveland Clinic Florida collaborates with the DAISY Foundation to provide ongoing recognition of the clinical skill and compassion nurses provide to patients and families all year long. Any licensed nurse (RN, LPN) may be nominated for the DAISY Award by their co-worker, patient, family, a physician, manager, or volunteer. To nominate a Cleveland Clinic Florida nurse, visit
