The Best in the West- A Call to Action in Weston
Twenty-three miles west of downtown Fort Lauderdale sits a South Florida jewel. Named one of the 10 best places to live by Money Magazine in 2016, Weston boasts A-rated public schools, manicured neighborhoods and a diverse corporate community. The 27-square mile swatch of Broward County is home to numerous Chamber members, and for good reason. The city has the lowest combined property and municipal taxes and fees in the county, as well as the lowest millage rate. Fortune 500 companies, renowned healthcare facilities, prominent hotels, and small businesses operating to simultaneously provide services to residences and guests alike. That is something Mayor Daniel Stermer says sets his city works tirelessly to promote.
“The City of Weston believes that a vibrant and involved business community is an essential component of a complete city,” said Stermer. “We encourage an engaged business community and Weston is committed to working with and listening to the ideas of our local businesses to address any issues in a manner that is in the best interest of all involved.
Barrett Goldman, Assistant Director of Sheridan Technical College, is the new chairman of the Greater Weston Business Council. He says the city is brimming with untapped resources for Chamber members.
”The Council is always looking for new businesses and leaders to expand the Chamber’s presence in the Greater Weston Area,” he said.
That’s why the Council is putting its own spin on the Small Business and Downtowner of the Year awards luncheons by hosting the Sawgrass Awards on August 30 (details at a later date). It’s a ceremony Goldman says you don’t want to miss.
“This event will provide yet another great opportunity in western Broward County to celebrate this year’s successes while making connections and partnerships to help ensure achievements for the future,” he said.
It’s just one of several existing opportunities for members. The CEO of Memorial Healthcare Systems spoke at the Weston Breakfast at McFatter Technical College in May, and monthly "Speed Networking Luncheons" are in the works. The next one takes place June 20 at Weston Hills Country Club. Tomorrow's West Power Lunch always draws a large crowd. It's an all-inclusive, high-energy networking session hosted by Circles Enterprises at Mallardi's Tuscan Grill.
