100 Years and Going Strong
Salute businesses with staying power

In 1910, the Board of Trade was created by a group of businessmen who set the direction for what is now the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.  As your Chamber concludes its 100th year, a select group of businesses with staying power will be honored this week at the Chamber's Centennial Salute to Business, Thursday, November 4, Hyatt Regency Pier 66, 5:30 pm.

This will be your chance to give praise to those companies which continue to be a driving force in South Florida with over six decades of success.  Companies like: Burrows Electric, Hobby House Camera Shop, Causeway Lumber, McLaughlin Engineering, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, Jungle Queen, Port Everglades, Rogers Morris Zeigler, Florida Power & Light, Shutts & Bowen, First Baptist Church, and the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler still questions me on how the Chamber can be older than the City.  My response is, "The Board of Trade created the City."  The City begins its Centennial celebration with the Winterfest Boat Parade, Dec. 11.

Collectively, our business community has matured into a melting pot of outstanding companies with excellent leaders.  We continue to cultivate new talent through Leadership Fort Lauderdale and the Senior Executive Orientation.  What is exciting to me is the future and who we will be honoring in 3010.  My guess is some of the same organizations will be there.
