Updates from the Membership Department at the Chamber

We are so excited in the membership department to continue to build value for you, our members, and to continue to develop initiatives that can help you build strong relationships and grow your business.

  • In our efforts to maintain a high level of quality and effectiveness of our programs, we are interested in hearing from you.  The chamber has developed a member survey which we invite you to complete and let us know how you think we are doing.  Click here to complete it:  www.ftlchamber.com/membersurvey.
  • Did you know that you can now sponsor a chamber membership for a nonprofit organization?  If you are interested in sharing the value of the chamber with a nonprofit organization so they can become part of our chamber’s network of business people, please email Rene Cantu, Director of Membership at rene@ftlchamber.comWe have special rates for nonprofit organizations!
  • Congratulations to Rhonda Bosco, T-Mobile for being this month’s Member of the Month!  Click here to read about her, and to nominate someone you feel has gone above and beyond for members of our chamber.

We are preparing for our membership drive over the summer months and would like to give our members an opportunity to promote their business.  We are seeking prizes as part of our rewards program for new member referrals.  If you have something you would like to contribute, please contact Rene Cantu, 954.462.7498 or rene@ftlchamber.com.  Each business will be listed on the membership drive prize board.

Doing Business As An IT Consumer
Today, Smart Companies Are Acquiring The Technology They need As A Managed Service
Submitted by: Jazmin Rey, UDT

It wasn’t so long ago that pretty much all business IT was delivered by hardware you could see and touch: desktop computers and laptops loaded with productivity software, server racks, peripherals, all strung together with CAT-5 cabling, the entire infrastructure residing onsite.

That model is still at the heart of IT … but layered atop it today are entirely new capabilities that enable computing to be delivered as a service consumed, much like water or power as a utility. Now, rather than incur the capital expense of a data center upgrade, businesses can focus their attention on their core mission and treat IT as an operating expense, simply acquiring many of the capabilities they need from a specialized, experienced vendor and measured by a Service Level Agreement (SLA).

For example, many applications are now hosted “out there” in the cloud and are accessible wherever people need to be productive; employees simply log in from home, the road, remote offices, and so forth. Cloud capabilities hosted by a qualified vendor, whether private or public, are easily scaled up or down without you having to deploy new hardware in your own data center.

A trusted service provider can even oversee the remote monitoring and proactive management of end-user devices that access your network, providing an important assist for your existing IT staff. They can also provide robust, secure wireless networks backed by strong SLAs.

Besides the cost-saving advantages for obtaining managed IT as a service, qualified providers also offer the latest security technology to help protect your sensitive data from attacks and keep you in compliance with HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory requirements. And, they can advise you on internal policies that help prevent security vulnerabilities from within – for example, controlling “shadow IT” (the use of third-party applications such as instant messaging, social media, etc.) and setting sensible “Bring Your Own Device” policies.

For more information, please contact Hugo Perez, United Data Technologies at (305) 490-8828. In our 20 years as a leading IT solutions provider, UDT, has helped nurture the grown of managed IT as a service, and that trend is only going to get bigger.  UDT is Driven by Service, Powered by IT.
