Congressman Ted Deutch and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and are proud to announce they will be hosting a job fair exclusively for our nation’s veterans. Unfortunately, employment remains a huge concern for our veterans, particularly those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.  After serving our country honorably and courageously, the last thing our veterans should have to worry about when they finally come home to their loved ones is whether or not they will be able to find a job.

VETERANS JOB FAIR

Saturday, December 3, 2011

10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Fort Lauderdale Armory

400 SW 24th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Our veterans have given so much to our country, it is now our turn to provide them with the economic opportunities they deserve. We invite your company to participate in this special event by reserving a table today!  The Veterans Job Fair  is free and will offer your organization an opportunity to meet with qualified veterans to discuss job openings and business opportunities.

Because putting veterans back to work is a top priority, the following provisions have been included in the American Jobs Act that provide tax cuts to companies that hire veterans:

The Returning Heroes Tax Credit

The Returning Heroes Tax Credit is a new hiring tax credit that will provide an incentive for firms to hire unemployed veterans.  It will provide:

•Short-term unemployed: A new credit of 40 percent of the first $6,000 of wages (up to $2,400) for employers who hire veterans who have been unemployed at least 4 weeks.

•Long-term unemployed: A new credit of 40 percent of the first $12,000 of wages (up to $4,800) for employers who hire veterans who have been unemployed longer than 6 months.

The Wounded Warrior Tax Credit

The Wounded Warrior Tax Credit will double the existing tax credit for long-term unemployed veterans with service-connected disabilitiesIt will:

•Maintain the existing Work Opportunity Tax Credit for veterans with service-connected disabilities (currently the maximum is $4,800).

•A new credit of 40 percent of the first $24,000 of wages (up to $9,600) for firms that hire veterans with service-connected disabilities who have been unemployed longer than 6 months.
