Karen Prescod

Karen Prescod is the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce (GLBX) Council 2016 Chairperson and President of Prescod Life and Health; a Florida based Health Insurance agency that works with small businesses. Karen is also licensed in TX, AZ, NM, IA, OR, PA, OK and UT. Karen is a Certified Medical Insurance Consultant (CMIC) and a Certified Exchange/Marketplace Specialist (EMS). She strives to provide products and services of the highest quality. Karen prides herself in helping small businesses understand their options with the Affordable Care Act and how to navigate all of the confusing rules and regulations. Karen gives seminars and presentations to companies as to the effect(s), rules and regulation of the new Health Care Laws.

Karen Prescod was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago then migrated to the US in her early twenties. She has always had a passion for the Martial Arts and earned a plethora of trophies doing this. Karen also successfully worked in the corporate arena for many years managing multi-million dollar accounts. She has had her fair share of health challenges, and is also legally disabled thus the reason she is in this industry. Karen has a true passion for what she does, and because of what she is challenged with every day. She continues to assist and educate small businesses about having good healthcare.

Ms. Prescod is very involved in the community and stays connected and informed in order to be able to effectively share her knowledge and expertise.


Chuck Dinsmore

Chuck Dinsmore is co-founder of Data Clique LLC, a Market Intelligence company. A trainer, consultant, and published author in the areas of marketing and business development, Chuck’s professional experience spans across many industries, including marketing, public speaking, teaching/training, real estate, healthcare management, retail management and strategy, and business development. Data Clique’s primary product, The Customer Store Market Intelligence Report, gives business owners the ability to find more “like-minded” clients within their target market matching their Best Customer Profile. It’s like being able to walk into The Customer Store to “buy” customers instead of buying marketing. Chuck is also available for business development training, speaking, and consulting in cutting-edge content marketing - helping the modern business owner position themselves as “The Expert” within their market. Through our entire suite of services, we have developed a WIN-WIN marketing resource allowing the business owner to gain better control of their marketing budget, and a higher closing ratio because their targets are already pre-disposed to buy!

Chuck first joined the Chamber in 2011 and has been affiliated with GLBX since its inception. He i=has served on the GLBX Board of Governors since January 2015.


Seda Aktas
Aktas | Hinden, PA

Seda Aktas, Esq. is a former prosecutor and a principal attorney at AKTAS⎮HINDEN, P.A., who focuses her practice on business law and litigation as well as criminal defense.  Ms. Aktas was chosen by Rue Ratings as one of the “Best Attorneys in America,” rated by Martindale Hubbell, and has been given its highest rating AV-Preeminent in the fields of Litigation and Criminal Law.  National Association of Distinguished Counsel selected Ms. Aktas as one of the “Nation’s Top One Percent,” and she was also awarded “Top 10 Under 40” in Florida, by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys.  She also holds the title of “Top 40 Under 40” by The National Trial Lawyers, and was rated a “Superb” Attorney by avvo.com in addition to being designated as one of “10 Best” in Client Satisfaction by the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys.  Ms. Aktas is also a member of the Florida Turkish-American community and acts as the elected Southeast Vice President of the Washington D.C. – based umbrella organization ATAA.  She enjoys the vibrant culture of South Florida, and born in Istanbul, Turkey, is fluent in Turkish and English.

Julian Cavazos
Elan 16Forty - Stamina Gym

Originally from Houston, Texas, Julian has been living in Fort Lauderdale since 1998.  He's been involved with GLBX for over 7 years and was its first account manager resulting it GLBX exceeding its membership requirements so that it could be voted in as a Counsel.  Julian served as GLBX's first Chair for two consecutive years.  He has served on several in and out of state boards and currently chair's the Renand Foundation, serves on the board of Citizens of the World and fund raisers for several local charities. His philanthropic work reaches far beyond South Florida and he plans to expand into Latin America this year. Julian is General Manager of Elan 16Forty-Stamina Gym and the co-owner of C&L Gym Management.

Mark Corbett
Gold Coast Magazine

Mark Corbett is currently spearheading the growth of Gold Coast magazine in every way, from representing the brand in the community to selling total packages across the company’s multiple print and digital platforms. He is serving as Associate Publisher of Fort Lauderdale’s premier lifestyle publication. Gold Coast magazine celebrated its 50th Anniversary in April of 2015. 

Prior to this appointment, Corbett spent over three years as Strategic Marketing Director for the largest tourism publication in the country, Travelhost of Greater Fort Lauderdale. His goal was to target the businesses that marketed to the 13 million tourists visiting Greater Fort Lauderdale. He successfully elevated the brand and initiated Travelhost’s digital and social media platforms they enjoy today. 

Corbett’s start in this city was the transformation of Riverwalk Trust’s monthly newsletter into a magazine. Starting in 2002 and continuing for over five years, Mark served as the President of New River Design Group, the entity responsible for publishing Go Riverwalk. He served as a Board member to Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale. He also served as a Board member to the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and the Project 100 renovation project of the Chamber building and property. Currently, Corbett serves on the Broward House and Birch State Park boards.


Lisa Harper
Memorial Healthcare System

Dedicated to promoting volunteerism in Broward and beyond, Lisa Harper has lead the Memorial Healthcare employee volunteer program H.E.R.O.s (Healthcare Employees Reaching Out) for over 12 years.  Also on the Executive Board of DOVS (Directors of Volunteer Services) of Broward County, she continues to “connect” the dots as she networks volunteer needs and non-profits throughout the county. Fueled by caffeine and armed with excellent organizational skills, she rallies the troops one cause at a time. Lisa’s down time is enjoyed in the kitchen or outdoors with her husband and puppy.  

Réquel Lopes
Trinity Acupuncture

Réquel earned her Bachelor’s degree from Barnard College of Columbia University, and has spent over 20 years working in public health, development and fundraising including working in the HIV/AIDS community.  She started by being a buddy to those living with HIV/AIDS as well as being an activist with ACT-UP and Black AIDS Mobilization (BAM) in New York to working in fundraising with the Broward House, AIDS Rides, Kids In Distress, and the SMART Ride.  She currently serves as the vice chair of Broward County’s HIV Planning Council.

She earned her Master’s in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from the prestigious AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine. Her practice, Trinity Acupuncture, focuses on the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern western medicine. She views acupuncture as a way of reminding the body what it is meant to do, encouraging the body towards homeostasis. She is one of the founding members of the Live Well Holistic Center, Inc. whose mission is to provide high quality holistic care to low income and underserved communities.


 

Doug Nelson
Fort Lauderdale Couples, Family and Individual Therapy, LLC

Doug Nelson has spent more than two decades assisting adults and adolescents with various concerns in outpatient settings, schools and structured substance abuse treatment programs.  He has facilitated therapy groups for substance abuse recovery, survivors of childhood abuse, coming out concerns and conducted debriefing groups for persons adversely affected by the loss of a colleague, job loss and workplace violence.  Doug was one of the first civilians who entered the US Pentagon on September 13, 2001 to provide crisis response services to personnel who had been working around the clock since the 9/11 attacks.

 Doug facilitated a one-day workshop in seven US states that provided continuing education credits for other professional counselors, social workers and psychologists who enrolled in the course which focused on working with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender clients in treatment settings.  

 Doug's clinical practice also allows business owners to refer employees struggling with work performance concerns or personal matters for a brief five session Management Consultation process.  Doug enjoys the balance of working with couples, adolescents and their parents, and individuals; hence the name of his clinical practice:  Fort Lauderdale Couples, Family and Individual Therapy, LLC

Andy Perrott

Andy Perrott is an Emmy Award winning television producer and commercial director.  Andy started his company, Lightship Media in 1999 and has produced television series, specials, commercials, and branding videos for companies such as Disney, ABC and Discovery Networks.  A graduate of Williams College, Andy received his degree in History and Studio Art.  He started his career at WCVB-TV in Boston before moving to Lifetime Television in New York and then to the Walt Disney Company in Orlando. Andy is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and enjoys his home in Oakland Park.

Solimar Rodriguez-Saez

Solimar Rodriguez-Sáez is the Client Relations Manager and Paralegal for Circle of Life Legal Services. Circle of Life Legal Services is a law firm dedicated to Estate Planning, with special attention to families with kids, Probate, and Family law. With a great understanding of the law, Mrs. Rodríguez, who is also a licensed attorney in Puerto Rico, tailors her professional services with compassion and care when handling such delicate family matters.

 Born and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico with a major in Advertising and Public Relations and a minor in Dramatic Arts. In 2010 Mrs. Rodriguez completed her Juris Doctor Degree at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, School of Law, and receiving the Litigation Award.

 Mrs. Rodríguez charisma, leadership and involvement with the community has earned her recognitions and awards throughout her student and professional career.

 Currently Mrs. Rodriguez is the Public Relations Chair for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Gay and Lesbian Business Exchange Council. She lives in Fort Lauderdale, FL with her husband Jorge and her dog Paco.

Geph Scarr
Scarr Insurance

GLBX Council & board member of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Growing up, Geph Scarr was an integral part in starting the first LGBT in-school support group for high school students in Pinellas County. He went on to study Art History and Public Relations at Florida State University and helped to create the first Artopia event in 1998 while working in non-profit development for Big Bend Cares, an HIV/AIDS organization servicing the panhandle region of Florida. Following graduation, Geph worked in Public Relations for 10 years and was a publicist in the beauty, fashion and beverage industries in both New York and Miami.

He launched his second career in 2009 by joining the family business, Scarr Insurance Group – a full service Insurance Agency which also specializes in community associations. Geph has served on the GLBX board for 5 years and currently chairs the GLBX Council and sits on the board of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. He formerly served on the board of the South Florida Human Rights Campaign and has volunteered and been active with local non-profits including The Pantry of Broward, The Pride Center and SunServe.


Stephanie Schneider

Doug Frens has a background in Social Work, community marketing and neighborhood improvement projects. Since moving to Florida, Doug has worked for a real estate agency and development projects at the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens.

Doug is responsible for coordination of various Chamber events such as the GLBX Council, Salute to Business, Business After Hours and the Downtown Council.

Row Iliescu
Equality Florida

Row (short for Rowena) Iliescu is Equality Florida’s South Florida Development Coordinator, and oversees the Galas and fund-raising events in 7 regions: Palm Beach, Lee, and Broward Counties, Miami-Dade, Naples, Upper Keys and Key West.  Row’s activism began as a volunteer for Equality Florida in 2008 when she tirelessly canvassed voters at the polls on Amendment 2. 

Since joining the Equality Florida team, Row has developed our Membership Services Program with cheerful dedication, attention to detail, and genuine concern for our members. Working alongside Stratton in South Florida, Row has helped broaden our base of support among small businesses and ally communities, while strengthening our network through increased collaboration with local organizations, and the development of dedicated volunteer teams. 

Originally from Toronto, Row has been a weather refugee in South Florida for almost 20 years.  She arrived as a successful trainer and exercise rider of thoroughbred racehorses, but following a serious riding accident went back to school earning a Masters Degree in Social Work and beginning doctoral studies in HIV prevention.  Finding that she preferred fieldwork, Row worked in the non-profit sector as a therapist to children and families in the foster care system for ten years before joining the Equality Florida team, where she says she feels, “at home.
