VisionBROWARD Hits the Road
Series of Town Hall Meetings Planned in 2005
Coordinate, Collaborate, Cooperate

VisionBROWARD will host the second in a series of Town Hall meetings at the Weston Community Center, 20200 Saddle Club Road, on Thursday, May 26, 2005 from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Implementation of VisionBROWARD recommendations will be the focus of the discussion.

Weston City Commissioner Daniel J. Stermer will open the meeting, and VisionBROWARD speakers will include Executive Committee members Alan Levy, Chair of the Broward Workshop, and Lonnie Maier, Chair of the Broward Alliance. Education Task Force Co-Chair Mason Jackson of Workforce One, Creative Industries Task Force Co-chair Mike Greene of Video Dynamics will also speak. In addition, members of County staff will participate, including Joseph Kocy, Broward County’s Assistant to the County Administrator for Housing.

VisionBROWARD task force groups concluded that Broward County must work with neighboring counties to develop South Florida as a regional entity in order to thrive economically in the future.

VisionBROWARD recommends the creation of a South Florida brand for marketing the region, the establishment of a regional economic foundation, and the establishment of a regional transportation network.

Other recommendations include the establishment of a regional Business Services Center to facilitate access to government services, the expansion of business/education consortia and partnerships, and the establishment of self-funded, community-based health insurance programs.

“VisionBROWARD is a successful community effort,” said Broward County Mayor Kristin Jacobs. “We need to all look for ways to implement the ideas and recommendations and focus on making this vision of the people a reality.”

VisionBROWARD Developments:

  • Broward County Commissioners held a workshop to discuss VisionBROWARD goals and recommendations.   Specific VisionBROWARD projects will be identified for implementation pending Commission approval.

  • The Broward County Board of County Commissioners discussed the inclusion of VisionBROWARD principles as they set goals for 2005.

  • The Broward County Board of County Commissioners has agreed to study the mass transit funding recommendations outlined at the VisionBROWARD funding conference in August 2004.

  • The Broward County Management and Efficiency Study Committee asked for a VisionBROWARD presentation and will consider the VisionBROWARD recommendations as they begin a two year study scheduled for completion in 2006.

  • A speaker’s bureau has been formed to further promote the principles of VisionBROWARD and volunteers interested in joining the project are encouraged to sign-up at the website
