July's Member of the Month: Damon Ricks
Damon joined the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) in 2023. He had recently started a new business with two engineering partners as consulting Engineers and Planners for Land Development projects, forming Scheffer Mote and Ricks. Damon and his partners Alex Scheffer, P.E. and Keith Mote have a long working history in Fort Lauderdale working in the south Florida market for most of their careers. After years of being behind the scenes Damon and his partners knew after stepping out on their own, they would need to focus energy on building new relationships in the business community and gaining exposure for their new business.
Damon was invited to a Power Partners Leads group meeting which led Scheffer Mote & Ricks to join the chamber. His participation in the Power Partners Leads group earned him a nomination to serve as the group’s vice chair for 2025. Scheffer Mote and Ricks have found success in making new business connections and relationships that have helped them grow their network and their business through the chamber. Additionally, Damon is a member of the Downtown Council where he served on the event coordination committee for the Downtowner of the Year signature event. The Downtowner of the Year award is an honor that Damon holds in high regard.
Damon serves on the Board of Directors for Riverwalk Trust and also serves on the Board of the Florida Design and Construction Professionals (FLDCP) and is chair of the membership committee.
Damon has lived his entire life in South Florida in and around Fort Lauderdale. When he was in high school, he worked at the grocery store on Las Olas where the Icon Tower now sits today which is next door to the Historic Stranahan House. The offices for Scheffer Mote and Ricks are located a few steps away at 888 E Las Olas Boulevard. It goes without saying that the Riverwalk and Downtown are important to Damon and Scheffer Mote & Ricks. Many of the redevelopment projects that Damon and his partners have worked on over a long career in the re-development business have been focused on Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Beach and the surrounding area.
